Est&Ost decided to explore the Danube basin and evaluate the quality of life and environmental risks that can lead to serious pollution, combining archive photographs dating back to the time of the communist era and images produced especially for this project.
Invited by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, Est&Ost participates in the E.CO project which let Euro-American photo collectives concentrate on one topic: The environment.
Meetings and discussions will be organized alongside exhibitions and screenings in order to reflect new production strategies and raise the awareness of collective work.
The exhibitions and meetings take place in the Spanish cities of Madrid and Sori between May 13 and 18. Later the exhibition is also going to tour several Brazilian towns.
The Danube is the largest river in Europe following the Volga. The Danube river basin covers approximately 805000 sq. km and 80 million people are directly affected by its water quality. Regardless of its importance, the Danube region has to cope with a combination of environmental problems caused by river water pollution.
